Our epics are referred to as ‘Itihasa’ which means ‘thus it happened’. Ramayana and Mahabharata have remained an integral part of Indian lives for centuries. The characters and stories teach us values which are eternal. The narratives guide us in making rational choices when faced with dilemma. As a perennial source of knowledge, the epics have enriched human minds on diverse topics such as statecraft, warfare and economics, every subject is analysed in great detail. Above all, they contain the essential message of Upanishads which is the quintessential God, Brahman. Our epics are indeed invaluable treasures for the whole of mankind.
